Two for the Ship

When it comes to draft day, Sweets has been Captain Early Round McDrafterson. Whether it’s the 1,2, or 3 spot, we have seen Sweets drafting from one of them nearly every year since 2010.

Sweets has opened up draft day with the #1 pick a League! high four times. When he hasn’t been hearing his draft song kick off the draft day ceremonies at the #1 spot, he hasn’t been too far behind. Sweets has also drafted from the #2 spot once and the #3 spot three times, giving him by far the lowest average draft position at 3.18.

While he has favored the #1 pick as his draft spot of choice, Sweets has actually had the least amount of success from there. In 4 appearances drafting first overall, he has only finished in the money once with a bronze medal in 2011. His lack of success drafting from the pole position even went as far as getting him relegated in 2013.

Suizo’s second favorite spot to draft from has been the #3 spot. His overall success has been about the same as drafting first overall. A 3rd place runner-runner up trophy and one lack luster playoff appearance. Nothing special.

If he wants to make another run at a bobblehead, he should have his eyes focused on the #2 spot. In the only year he’s ever drafted from that position, he crushed it - hoisting his first and only League! bobblehead.

This year, look for Sweets to draft early and often as he is coming into the 2020 season loaded up with two 1st round draft picks. He found himself in a similar position last year, coming into the 2019 draft also with two 1st round picks. He spent those on Alvin Kamara and Julio Jones. They panned out about as well as you can hope from your first rounders, but it wasn’t enough to get himself into the playoffs.

This year’s draft will be a redemption shot as last year’s attempt fell short. The draft bracket has him slated for a first round matchup against always dangerous Moeller. Moeller has consistently been crafty with the dice over the years, trying to roll from the balcony of the Vegas suite last year. If he can get past the Bear and find himself in a position at picking from one of the top spots again, it will be interesting to see where he decides to draft from. Our money’s on early.

If he can avoid the little injury guys his two first round picks should give him a one way ticket back to the playoffs. How successful he is from there will be all on Suizo.
