Trouble in Texas
There is no doubting his performance both on the field and on the Vegas Strip. It would be dumb to try. But it is going to take a lot more than riding a crafty first round pick into the playoffs this year. That is a luxury he will not have.
Grabs may be at the top of Power Ranking mountain, but the playoff mountain that he is facing this year is steeper than ever. If this were a real mountain instead of a metaphorical one, then the newly built P-90 Grabs would be fine. He’d probably climb it twice. Unfortunately the mountain that be built for himself to get back to the playoffs is the Mount Everest of playoff mountains.
As he does with almost everything in life, Grabs gave it his all in last year in hopes of hoisting his second bobblehead. Winning 4 of his last 5 games, Grabs finished the regular season in 1st place with a league best 9 wins and a first round bye with his name on it. He unfortunately ran into a buzzsaw in Egon in the semifinals and was eliminated by 3.08 points in a 167-98-164.90 battle. If he had been able to close that 3 point gap and get past the semifinals, he would have taken down Hans in the championship and Texas would have hosted the 2019 championship parade.
Instead, Grabs has left himself in quite the pickle coming into the 2020 season. He will be coming into the draft without his 1st and 4th round picks. Even when he hasn’t been short handed, Grabs’ performance on draft day has been mediocre at best. He averages a C+ when drafting with a normal set of picks. Getting back to the playoffs would be a huge accomplishment this year if he can overcome being both short handed and terrible on draft day.
Grabs’ Draft Grades
2019: C
2018: B
2016: C-
2015: B-
2014: C-
2013: C
Average: C+
His strength of schedule may help him out as he will be paired up against Egon twice this season, who is coming into the 2020 season with equally as terrible draft picks. This is the same Egon that gave Grabs his only 2 loses of the season after week 9, including the knockout blow in the postseason. Their matchups this season are guaranteed Garbage Game of the week locks whenever they play each other.
Grabs was able to get by with a pretty simple strategy last year…draft Patrick Mahomes in the first round and let him pave the way to the playoffs. He will be without a first round pick this year, so he will have to find a new horse to ride into the postseason.
Grabs is atop the leaderboard in pretty much every category you can think of but has only been able to walk away with 1 championship in his 8 playoff visits. Getting another one up on his mantle would firmly put himself atop the leaderboard as the top dog in The League!. The biggest question for him this year is can he sneak into the 6 spot for a chance get there?
