When they were first introduced in 2010, most managers didn’t think the Commish was serious about actually having a song play while they were drafting. Now, it is hard to think of a League! draft without them.

There isn’t anything quite like that moment leading up to your 1st round pick. Hearing your song playing in the background when your time comes to embark on another bobblehead quest has given managers an added level of excitement when it’s time to assemble their squads.

Are people going to love my song? Will they hate it? Will funk master flex make a cameo and ruin it? The added level of drama is immeasurable.

We’ve seen a lot of songs over the years. And we’ve pretty much heard it all. Rap, Electronic, Pop, Rock, Country, Alternative, 80s, a few WWE theme songs, a showtune from Cats and the theme song from Cops. They’ve all made it into draft day history.

Here’s a breakdown of what we’ve seen and what we can expect to see in years to come.

POPULARITY
🥇Rap 🥈Pop 🥉 Electronic

If draft songs were a popularity contest, Rap songs would be the Regina George of the bunch. 37% of all draft songs chosen have been of the Rap variety. Pop (18%), Electronic (17%), Rock (8%) and Alternative (7%) round out the rest of the cool kids and close out the top 5.

SUCCESS
📈 Rap/Pop/Electronic
📉 Rock/Theme Songs

Not surprisingly, Rap, Electronic, Pop also own the bragging rights as being the only genres that have won their managers a League! championship. Rock and theme songs can be found at the other end of the spectrum, relegating 40% of managers come draft day and never winning a league championship.

TOP PICK
👑 Notorious BIG
🎵 Dope Show

The top artists come draft day is Notorious BIG. He has been chosen 3 separate times with 3 separate songs. Jay Z, Seal, Chance the Rapper, Travis Scott, Fetty Wap, Marilyn Manson, Martin Solveig, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Cash Cash, Justin Timberlake, Jake Owen, Imagine Dragons, AC/DC, Young Thug and 2 Pac have also all had multiple Draft Day appearances.

The top song is Dope Show. Billy has chosen it a record 3 times.

TRENDS

Egon has chosen a rap song every year since joining The League!. Most notably, he has gone with Trap Queen twice, and won The League! both times.

Cox & Herriott are also rap fans. They’ve gone with it in over half of their drafts.

Billy has stayed true to Notorious BIG 4 times, as well as Marilyn Manson’s “Dope Show” 3 times, both more than any other manager.

Moeller has used a country song in nearly half of his drafts. Surprisingly (or not surprisingly), he has gone to the relegation playoffs every one of those times.

Carmen has been consistent at playing the villian with his draft songs by using the theme songs for both Vince McMahon and Darth Vader.

Reichert is pretty much always a shoo-in to go with whatever is #1 on B96’s 9 most wanted.

The rest of The League! managers are typically wild cards. The biggest wild card of them all is Grabs, who has used everything from Hugh Jackman/Zac Efron showtunes to “Kiss From a Rose” to “Gangham Style.” And of course a song or two from Fast and the Furious. RIP Paul.
